Flour’s Workforce Development Coordinators shared their endorsement for GTEC’s pre apprenticeship programs to help the local communities get an industrial job with no experience.
As Harlod Inman and Steve Jones of Fluor, Port Arthur shared, “This is to acknowledge the effort brought forward by the Golden Triangle Empowerment Center (GTEC) in preparing the next generation of skilled tradesmen and women.
The students have completed the recognized National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Curriculum. This 82-hour program is designed to give trainees a good grasp of basic construction hand and power tools, math, blueprints, rigging, employability and communication skills and, most important, promote safe work practices.
Students completion of the Core Curriculum is a prerequisite for Fluor craft training, so this allows them to enter directly into Fluor’s Craft Training programs as opening become available on this worksite.
GTEC appears to want to send their graduates out with a good grasp of the craft workers’ environment, and the understanding that while they are anxious to advance, they know the importance of on the job training.”
